Kris Doolan vows to surpass Partick Thistle century

Kris Doolan is closing in on his Partick Thistle century but the Jags striker is already looking at milestones further down the road.

The Firhill frontman netted his 90th goal for the Maryhill outfit with his winner in last week's Betfred Cup clash at Airdrie.

Now he is aiming to become just the ninth man to reach three figures for the club in the season ahead.

However, Doolan insists he has no intention of stopping at 100.

The 29-year-old former junior player told Press Association Sport: "For any striker, you want to get off and running as quickly as possible so to get a goal in the first game of the season was brilliant.

"That's me up to 90 goals for Thistle so I'm closing in on the century now.

"It's getting closer and closer. At the start of every season I think I can take a big chunk out of it and claw myself closer to it.

"It would be some feat. Scoring 100 goals is not something many people manage these days. Most people don't hang around at clubs long enough to score that amount of goals.

"There has been a lot of proud moments for me at Thistle. I'm proud every time I play for them. I'm the type of player who really appreciates everything that I have worked hard to get. But to look back and see that I've scored over 100 goals for a club would be something I would be especially proud of.

"I'm not just looking at getting to three figures, though. Reaching 100 is a big aim but I won't stop there. I'll be looking to kick on after that."

Doolan will hope to take another step to that initial target on Saturday when Thistle host Queen of the South.

He has registered nine strikes against the Dumfries outfit, more than any other club.

He added: "We've got Queens on Saturday and they are the team I've scored the most against, so I'll go there full of confidence having scored last week.

"Do I feel extra confident because of my record against them? Well personally I go into every game thinking I'll score. It doesn't matter who we play, if a half chance comes to me, I'll put it in the net.

"I suppose in the back of my mind I know in years gone by I've done well against certain teams like Queens but I treat every game the same way."

Doolan could be joined in Alan Archibald's line-up by David Amoo after the winger shook off the dead leg which kept him out of last week's Diamonds triumph.

Archibald also hopes to have at least one of his injured keepers Tomas Cerny (foot) and Ryan Scully (thigh) fit enough to take a seat on the bench but skipper Abdul Osman (knee), Stuart Bannigan (knee), Christie Elliott (groin) and Gary Fraser (knee) are still out, as is long-term injury victim Mustapha Dumbuya (Achilles).

Queen of the South miss midfielder Jake Pickard through suspension but Mark Millar returns after serving a two-game ban.

Goalkeeper Robbie Thomson is struggling with a groin injury, with manager Gavin Skelton looking for his side to make it three wins out of three.

Skelton said: "We have done well so far with wins over Queen's Park and Airdrie where we have not conceded a goal. However, I recognise that this game will be a real test as Partick Thistle are a well-established top-flight side.

"We will go there looking for the three points but Partick Thistle will be going out with the same approach."
