Miller unconcerned by lack of goals

Gary Miller is confident Partick Thistle will get on the goal trail against Kilmarnock at Firhill on Saturday.

The Maryhill men have yet to find the net after three Ladbrokes Premiership games, albeit two creditable goalless draws away to Hamilton and Inverness respectively sandwiched a hardly-surprising 2-0 home defeat to champions Celtic.

Miller saw enough in the trip to the Highlands on Wednesday night to give him the belief that goals are coming.

The former St Johnstone full-back told Press Association Sport: "There are positives to take, two clean sheets and the only team who have scored against us is Celtic.

"To get two clean sheets out of three so early in the season is great for us.

"And we had to sacrifice a forward player against Hamilton when we had a man sent off.

"So I don't think goals are a problem right now. We created chances against Inverness and we hit the bar.

"So it is coming and it will come but it is not anything we are bothering about right now.

"And if we get a win on Saturday that is five points in four games which would be a good start for us."

Jags boss Alan Archibald believes Kilmarnock will be boosted after coming back twice to get a point from Celtic in a 2-2 draw at Rugby Park which gave them their first point of the season.

However, the former Thistle defender is hoping to get the first win of the campaign.

He said: "Yes, Kilmarnock will be on a high.

"It was a great point against Celtic for them.

"They will be buoyant but so will we. We are at home as well so it is chance for us to get our first victory there."

Archibald is hoping striker Mathias Pogba will be fit after he was taken off just 18 minutes into the goalless draw against Inverness with a hamstring problem.

Christie Elliott is out for up to 20 weeks after a scan revealed a stress fracture in the pelvic area.

Kilmarnock striker Josh Magennis aims to keep moving upwards after following his worst afternoon on a football pitch with a point against the champions.

Magennis admits he was "embarrassed" following Killie's 4-0 opening-day home defeat to Dundee, when he was one of three players hauled off at half-time.

That was followed by defeat at Aberdeen but there was respite from the criticism on Wednesday when Magennis was on target as Killie held Celtic.

Magennis said: "It was great to redeem ourselves against the best team in the country on Wednesday night. We came away with a point but the most important thing was the performance. It seems to have boosted the morale a bit.

"We started with two defeats but most importantly it was an embarrassing performance against Dundee. It's not the way we wanted to start the season, especially at home.

"Normally when you get beat you feel embarrassed anyway but, for me, Dundee was probably the worst performance I've ever been involved with in football.

"Also, getting taken off at half-time and then sitting watch another two goals go in, it is quite embarrassing, especially when you have people to come and pay their money. They expect to be entertained or at least see something and on that day they just got nothing.

"That's one of the rarest things I have ever seen. Normally you get two or three people having a bad game but to have one to 11 was something you don't see often."

Scott Robinson has joined Kilmarnock's injury list after pulling a hamstring against Celtic.

Lee Ashcroft is also a doubt after picking up a knock against the champions while Kris Boyd (ankle) will be assessed after missing Wednesday's draw.

Loan player Stuart Findlay comes back after being ineligible to face his parent club and Lee McCulloch rejoins the squad as cover following an ankle problem.
