Frustration for Partick boss

Partick boss Alan Archibald admits he is already worried about his side's toothless start to the season.

Thistle have yet to pick up a win from five games and have managed just two goals - both scored by striker Kris Doolan.

They have drawn blanks in four of those fixtures, with Doolan's brace in a 2-2 draw against Kilmarnock their only successes.

That has set Archibald's nerves jangling and he has warned his Jags it is time to sharpen up in front of goal.

The Firhill boss - whose side host Falkirk in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday night - told Press Association Sport: "We are well aware of our scoring stats this season.

"We've only scored two goals and Kris Doolan got both of them. That's great for him but we are really looking to get goals from other areas of the pitch.

"That was something we were strong at last season but we haven't done it this season.

"We've only played five games and one of them was against Celtic, and in two of the others we've had a man sent off. So we've had a tough start with those circumstances.

"But last year we were proud of our scoring stats - 48 goals from 38 games - which was one of the better records in the bottom half. We need to get back to that.

"It can be easy to get worried by that and we are concerned. There's no doubt about that. But we believe we can improve and we're working on it all the time.

"We only created a lot of chances in that one game against Kilmarnock and we need to do a lot better against Falkirk on Tuesday night.

"We need to make sure whoever is up front gets good service."

Falkirk are again missing Kieran Duffie who has a knee injury, with Bob McHugh rated as a doubtful starter at Firhill.

Manager Peter Houston was delighted that his side got back on track at the weekend ahead of facing the Jags.

He said: "Everyone was pretty down about our defeat from Peterhead last midweek. We had a good discussion about it ahead of the Livingston game at the weekend and the players showed that they had put it behind them by winning that game.

"Partick Thistle away from home is a tough tie however we would like to extend our run in this competition."
