Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald is hoping defender Frederic Frans recovers from his hamstring injury for the visit of Dundee in the Ladbrokes Premiership on Saturday.

Midfielder Gary Fraser and striker Mathias Pogba both have knocks but Archibald is confident they will make it.

New signings Mustapha Dumbuya and Robbie Muirhead have been added to the squad, while Christie Elliott is out for the long term with a stress fracture in the pelvic area.

Sean Welsh admits coming through some "very mentally challenging" times as he fought back to fitness to win a new deal with Partick.

The 25-year-old defender has struggled with various injuries including ankle and knee over the past two seasons and made only three appearances last term for Archibald's side.

After agreeing a short-term deal in the summer to prove his fitness, Welsh signed a new contract last month which keeps him at Firhill until 2017.

The former Hibernian player has featured in all six Ladbrokes Premiership games for the Jags this season but recalls the struggle to get back on track.

He told Press Association Sport: "It was challenging. Very mentally challenging.

"It was hard to take at times when things were not going my way and I was unlucky, picking up different injuries.

"When injuries happen, there is nothing you can do to change it. Trust me, it is hard when you are in the gym and you are having a down day.

"You just have to try to be as positive as possible and see that there is going to be light at the end of the tunnel."

With just three points from six games - one ahead of bottom side Kilmarnock - Archibald is looking for that "elusive victory" against Dundee.

He said: "We have had a tough start, no getting away from it. We have had three defeats and three draws.

"We can't keep making excuses, we need to go and get victories.

"We need to make sure we are still close to that pack of teams in the middle by the end of the first quarter, we don't want a gap to open up.

"But I have been very impressed by Dundee. They started the season well, beating Kilmarnock 4-0. They have strengthened really well, Paul (Hartley) got a lot of his work done early, with some good signings."

Dundee midfielder Paul McGowan is a doubt for the match after sustaining a knock in training.

But Paul Hartley has a number of options to choose from. Gary Harkins returns from suspension and loan signings Riccardo Calder and Rhys Healey also come into contention.

Julen Etxabeguren (hamstring) and Rory Loy (groin) have returned to training following injury.
