Brazilian leftback Maxwell was on Thursday officially unveiled by French Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain, as the transfer of AC Milan striker Pato looked increasingly doubtful.
"We're delighted," said PSG sporting director Leonardo at the presentation ceremony of his compatriot - a Champions League winner with Barcelona last year - on a three-and-a-half year deal.
"He's a 30-year-old player who has already had a successful career. Personally I followed him during his time in Italy and Spain. We're delighted that he's part of the team now," said Leonardo
Maxwell, a former Ajax and Inter Milan player, said he was looking forward to playing for his new team who host Toulouse in Parc des Princes on Saturday.
"Here it's Carlo Ancelotti (coach) who defines the team philosophy. Ancelotti has won a lot of titles, that's a reference for a player and it's motivating to work for him. I'm ready attack this new adventure with confidence," said Maxwell.
"The projects ambitions of the club in the near future pushed me to join PSG.
"I know Nene, with whom I had the chance to play in the Brazilian U-23 team a few years ago. I haven't had contact with the others but I can't wait to meet the rest of the squad."
PSG are in need of a leftback as Ivory Coast international Siaka Tiene has left for the Africa Cup of Nations.
But the transfer of AC Milan's Brazilian striker Pato looks uncertain, as the Serie A side revealed the 22-year-old has decided to stay in Italy.
French sources had claimed the Qatari-backed team had agreed a deal over a 28-million-euro move, potentially rising to 35 million euros with bonuses.
But the Brazilian has rejected the move to PSG, where he could have rejoined former Milan coach Ancelotti.
Leonardo, however, refused to rule out the transfer going ahead.
"Things are moving forward," he told AFP.
"There are possibilities but there isn't agreement. We'll see, we have time, there won't be anything tomorrow (Friday), that's sure."
