Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz was full of praise for his team despite seeing them lose their World Cup opener against England 1-0 in Frankfurt on Saturday.
An early Carlos Gamarra own goal handed England victory, but Paraguay made Sven-Goran Eriksson's much-fancied side look poor in the second half.
"I want to congratulate the team for their attitude and effort," said Ruiz.
"We committed mistakes during the first 15 minutes but woke up and controlled England.
"We were surprised by the goal but afterwards controlled a powerful team."
