Founded in 1908 by Giorgos Kalafatis, Panathinaikos although under a different name, Panathinaikos has become the most successful team from Greece.

During the 1970-71 season Panathinaikos reached the European Cup Football club tournament and although it was won by Ajax, they are they only Greek club to reach a European final.
