Rossi rushed in at Palermo

Palermo have wasted little time in appointing Delio Rossi as Walter Zenga's successor in the coaching hot-seat at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Former Italy international goalkeeper Zenga was axed just six months into a three-year contract on Monday with the club lying 12th in Serie A table, having taken 17 points from 13 games.

Meanwhile, Rossi has stepped in with immediate effect on a two-year contract.

Rossi has been out of work since leaving Lazio due to personal reasons at the end of last season.

"He will be with us until June 2011 with the option for a further year," confirmed sporting director Walter Sabatini.

"He will bring in people he has worked with in the past.

"Zenga did an excellent job at Palermo but it didn't produce results. There was no consistency in the play or results.

"Rossi will need time to transform and improve the squad's identity."
