Palermo dismiss Zenga

Former Italy international goalkeeper Walter Zenga has paid the price for Palermo's recent poor run by being sacked.

The 49-year-old has been axed just six months in to a three-year contract with the Sicilian outfit and with his side in mid-table.

Sunday's 1-1 draw against Catania left Palermo 12th in Serie A with 17 points from 13 games, although it did extend their winless streak to four games.

A statement from the club read: "Palermo announces it has dismissed Walter Zenga as coach of the first team.

"The club wishes to thank Zenga for the work done and wishes him the best of luck in the future."

Zenga replaced Davide Ballardini in the summer and was recently given a vote of confidence by club president Maurizio Zamparini.

In the past Zenga has been linked with both Internazionale and Lazio.
