Giuseppe Sannino became the first coaching casualty of the Serie A season Sunday after being sacked by Palermo.

Palermo have drawn once and been defeated twice in their three league matches so far.

On Saturday, they looked set for their first win until Cagliari levelled in the 64th minute.

Palermo said in a statement on their website that Sannino would be replaced by Gian Piero Gasperini.

"Giuseppe Sannino has been released from his post," the club said in a statement.

"At the same time we would like to announce the appointment of of Gian Piero Gasperini who will take his first coaching session with the team on Tuesday."

Sannino, formerly of Siena, had only joined Palermo during the summer.

Gasperino made his name in Italian football coaching Genoa from 2006-2010. He then moved on to Inter Milan for 2011, before being sacked after three months in charge.
