Palermo sack Mangia after Catania loss

Italian strugglers Palermo have sacked manager Devis Mangia the day after a 2-0 loss at Catania in the Sicily derby match.

The defeat leaves Palermo in mid-table with 20 points from 15 games, but they are now one point behind Catania.

Mangia took over at the start of the season after the sacking of Stefano Pioli, but has been unable to bring the kind of success demanded by Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini.

He is the ninth Serie A coach to be fired this season.

Bortoli Mutti, who was manager at the club between 2001-2002, is the early favourite to succeed Mangia.
