A 55th minute penalty from French striker Cyril Thereau secured a share of the points for Chievo at home to Palermo on Saturday.

Palermo took a shock fifth-minute lead thanks to Mauro Formica's superb angled strike after the ball had been flicked into the Argentine's path by Chievo defender Francesco Acerbi.

The hosts levelled 10 minutes after the restart when Thereau converted from the spot after Palermo defender Santiago Garcia handled in the box.

The result moved Chievo up two places to 10th ahead of the rest of the weekend fixtures, with the point moving Palermo off the bottom at the expense of Siena, who host third-placed Lazio on Monday.

Leaders Juventus are away at Roma in Saturday's late game, while Napoli, in second, host Sampdoria in Sunday's early game.
