York consign Oxford to first defeat

York made it back-to-back wins for the first time since their return to the Football League as they ended Oxford's 100% League Two record with a 3-1 victory.

The Minstermen made the best possible start as Michael Coulson found the target inside the opening 20 seconds after Ryan Clarke could only spill Patrick McLaughlin's effort.

Oxford then had the chance to restore parity in the 10th minute but Deane Smalley saw his penalty saved by Michael Ingham following a handball by Charlie Taylor.

Smalley was made to pay for his miss five minutes later as Ashley Chambers played a neat one-two with Coulson before drilling the ball under Clarke to double York's advantage.

Oxford found their way back into the game after 23 minutes with Adam Chapman's corner going in off the head of the unfortunate McLaughlin.

But nine minutes after the restart York restored their two-goal cushion once again as McLaughlin produced a calm finish from the edge of the area to make amends for his own goal.
