U's face Green battle

Oxford United face competition to keep striker Matt Green. The on-loan Torquay front man, who scored the opening goal in the 3-1 play-off victory over York at Wembley, is wanted on a permanent deal by U’s boss Chris Wilder. But other clubs have already expressed interest in the 23-year-old, according to Torquay chief executive Colin Lee. “I have had a phone call from a representative of Matt Green’s, and discussed the situation with him,” Lee told the Torquay Herald & Express. “But we have retained Matt’s registration, and we have offered him a new contract. “There is a lot of speculation surrounding his future, but I have had no conversation with anyone from Oxford yet. “Matt has done himself no harm this season, and by scoring in the final as well. “We wouldn’t want a player to stay here if he wasn’t happy, but there is a lot of potential in Matt, and sometimes you have to pay for that potential. “There has been some interest in him, and not just from Oxford. “My job is to protect Torquay United's interest, and I will do all I can to make this happen for both parties. “The ideal situation would be to come to a compromise, but if the figures don’t suit Torquay United, we would be prepared to take it to a tribunal.” After signing from Cardiff City two years ago, Green made 20 starting appearances at Plainmoor, with a further 25 as a substitute, during the 2008-2009 season and scored five goals. Following Torquay’s promotion back to the League, they sent him out to Oxford on a season-long loan. Source: Oxford Times   Fancy a flutter with paddypower?
