Full steam ahead for U's

Oxford expect midfielder Liam Sercombe and striker Ryan Taylor to be fit for their season-opener against Crawley.

The duo, who both arrived at the Kassam Stadium this summer, suffered knocks in the friendly against Coventry and were brought off as precautions but should be available for manager Michael Appleton.

If that is the case, Appleton will have a full squad to choose from with Kemar Roofe set for a full debut after making his loan move from West Brom permanent and George Baldock also in contention at the back.

Sam Slocombe has been handed the U's number one jersey for the season following his move from Scunthorpe and will start in goal while defender Jake Wright, who signed a new deal in the summer, will continue to lead the side.

Crawley manager Mark Yates has left Izale McLeod out of his squad.

The striker is the subject of intense interest from Notts County and Southend but there could be a debut for promising goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, on loan from Newcastle, and another new loan signing, Fulham defender Liam Donnelly.

Defender Lanre Oyebanjo (cartilage) and forward Gavin Tomlin (hernia) remain two months away from fitness after their respective operations.

Full-back Bryan Van Den Bogaert has returned to training but may not receive international clearance in time to play.
