Howard set for U's debut

Oxford will include new signing Brian Howard in their squad as they search for their first win of the season when Accrington visit the Kassam Stadium.

The U's drew 1-1 with Exeter on Saturday to make it three league draws in a row, but they will be boosted by 31-year-old midfielder Howard who penned a deal on Monday after a successful trial spell.

Boss Michael Appleton is set to hand fellow new recruit Tyrone Barnett his home debut against Stanley. The on-loan Peterborough striker made his first start for United at St James Park and looks set to keep his place.

But Jon Meades will miss out once more through suspension.

Interim manager Paul Stephenson is expected to be in charge of Accrington once again.

James Beattie's shock departure on Friday night did not disrupt the Stanley squad too much as they recorded a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Stephenson will have a fully-fit squad to select from and could name an unchanged XI for a third straight game as Accrington chase a hat-trick of wins.

Defender Michael Liddle, whose last appearance came on the opening day of the season, has had a setback with his knee problems but should be available if Stephenson needs him.
