Reid helps Pilgrims down U's

Reuben Reid struck twice in the last nine minutes to bring Plymouth a shock 3-2 win over second-placed Oxford at the Kassam Stadium.

After a goalless first half, the game exploded in the second half.

On-loan Sheffield Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery fired Argyle in front 27 seconds after the break with a shot from the edge of the box before Asa Hall equalised with a 25-yard drive in the 66th minute.

But Dave Kitson's handball in the box in the 81st minute handed the Pilgrims a penalty and Reid converted with aplomb, firing high into the top-left corner as Ryan Clarke dived the other way.

Reid then put the match out of Oxford's reach by scrambling in Plymouth's third with three minutes to go.

Still the U's tried to hang on to their unbeaten run, stretching back nine games, as Deane Smalley forced Curtis Nelson to tunr the ball into his own goal a minute later.

But Chris Wilder's team ran out of time, and Plymouth were able to celebrate a second successive win, and a famous one at that.
