Adam McGurk stunner secures point for Portsmouth at Oxford

Adam McGurk struck a stunning second-half equaliser to preserve Portsmouth's unbeaten record in a pulsating 1-1 draw against Oxford at the Kassam Stadium.

Midfielder McGurk picked up the ball 30 yards out in the 61st minute and unleashed a screamer which flew past goalkeeper Sam Slocombe diving to his left.

Liam Sercombe had returned from suspension to fire Oxford in front on 33 minutes after the visitors failed to clear a corner and he sent in an 18-yard drive that bounced up past several covering defenders and into the net.

Portsmouth had skipper Michael Doyle sent off on 81 minutes for a second yellow card but Oxford could not turn late pressure into a winner.

In the opening 25 minutes, Pompey had dominated possession but as the half wore on Oxford looked increasingly dangerous and started carving out good chances.

Paul Jones turned Danny Hylton's rising shot over the bar with an outstretched hand and Kemar Roofe fired just wide from Callum O'Dowda's cut-back.

Roofe should have made it two for the U's in first-half stoppage time when he went through on goal after a defensive mistake, but Jones showed great reactions to divert his shot for a corner.
