Accrington deserve point at Kassam

Oxford failed to hold onto a lead at home for the fourth time this season as Accrington hit back after trailing at half-time to draw 1-1 at the Kassam Stadium.

Peter Murphy drove in a 62nd-minute equaliser from 20 yards, and it was no more than Stanley deserved after they carved out most of the game's best chances.

A deflected free-kick from Paul McLaren in the 35th minute gave Oxford the lead.

The midfielder's shot from 25 yards struck Luke Joyce and totally wrong-footed keeper Sean Murdoch.

The visitors had good reason to feel aggrieved about being behind at the break.

Dean Winnard's header from Sean Hessey's free-kick beat Oxford goalkeeper Ryan Clarke but came back off the inside of the post.

And when Wes Fletcher followed up to knock the ball over the line, the linesman ruled he had been offside.

Clarke also made two terrific stops to keep Accrington out.

He followed up a fingertip save from Fletcher's lob with a fine reaction save at his near post from Kevin Long's header.

Man-of-the-match Clare also saved from Kevin Long's header in the second hlaf.

But the Us nearly snatched victory through Alfie Potter, who saw his low shot denied by the legs of goalkeeper Murdoch.

Accrington are still looking for their first away win since February, but this was an improved showing after last week's 2-0 home defeat by Crewe.
