Oxford striker Ryan Taylor condemns new Cambridge boss Shaun Derry to defeat

Ryan Taylor continued his scoring streak to help second-placed Oxford win 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium in new Cambridge manager Shaun Derry's first match in charge.

Taylor had not scored in his first 10 starts since joining Oxford from Portsmouth in the summer, but he made it four in his last three games by finishing off a superb move on 31 minutes.

Kemar Roofe did brilliantly to win the ball from the Cambridge defence and released Alex MacDonald, who selflessly pulled it back for Taylor to convert with a crisp first-time shot.

Danny Hylton was denied by a smart save from Chris Dunn in an open start to the game, in which Cambridge striker Rory Gaffney also forced a save from Benji Buchel.

Dunn pushed a MacDonald shot around the post and Taylor headed over as the home side threatened whenever they broke into the box.

In the second half, Hylton honestly played on when Dunn slipped and brought down the striker inside the area. Hylton picked himself up off the ground but shot against the bar.

Cambridge forced some late pressure and Hylton twice cleared off the line from Barry Corr headers at set-pieces.
