Melville: We were magnificent

Oxford coach Andy Melville hailed his side as "magnificent" after they beat Shrewsbury 3-1. Asa Hall fired the U's ahead in the 11th minute with a 20-yard drive but Mark Wright equalised with a long-range effort that took a big deflection to beat goalkeeper Ryan Clarke. However, United climbed to seventh in the table after James Constable's second-half double sent his old club crashing to defeat. Melville said: "I thought we were magnificent from front to back. "We were disappointed with their goal, Shrewsbury had a little bit of luck with the deflection but we came back and started passing the ball and I thought there was some excellent play out there. And great individual performances as well. The lads were spot on. "They went about it in the right way, it was a good response from Saturday's defeat at Northampton. You lose games of football and it's about how you respond. We said to them at half-time that if they keep doing that, they'll get the rewards. James Constable's a real handful. As a defender, you know you're in a game against him."
