Former star talks play offs

York City goal hero Chris Carruthers says his club have nothing to fear ahead of their play-off final against his former team Oxford United. Carruthers’s 47th-minute goal against Luton completed a 2-0, two-legged semi-final victory. United finished two places above York in the Blue Square Premier standings. They also won their home match with the Minstermen on the opening day of the season 2-1, thanks to two late goals, and earned a 1-1 draw at Bootham Crescent during October's return fixture. But Carruthers, who started the season at the Kassam Stadium before joining York in the January transfer window following a loal spell, claims his current employers boast a stronger squad. He said: “We have a brilliant record against the top teams and don’t fear anybody at all. Everyone was saying Luton were the favourites for the play-off,s but we set our stall out against them and it worked perfectly as we won both games 1-0. “I remember the lads playing very well at Oxford but being really unlucky and there's nothing to fear at all. “In my eyes, we have a better team and a better squad of players. “We will work on things at the training ground and we will have had Oxford watched. I haven’t seen them in recent times and there will be some changes in personnel but, if we go to Wembley with the same mentality, resilience and team spirit, we will be tough to beat.” Carruthers made 34 league appearances for Oxford last season, having signed on a free transfer from Bristol Rovers. But the former England youth international joined Crawley on loan after just one outing under Wilder this term. He then moved to the Minstermen on the same basis at the end of September before making his stay permanent. The 26-year-old midfielder has now played 38 times for City, with Monday’s crucial goal only his third for the club in that time. Having been made surplus to requirements by the U’s, Carruthers admitted it would be satisfying to clinch promotion at the expense of his old team at Wembley. He added: “I don't think I have a point to prove, but it would be nice to get one over on them. “That would be brilliant – but then it would be brilliant to beat anybody at Wembley.”   Source: Oxford Mail Fancy a flutter with paddypower?
