Hall at the double for U's

Asa Hall's brace ensured Oxford's play-off hopes remained on track as Chris Wilder's men earned a 2-0 victory at Accrington.

Both sides had chances to break the deadlock at the end of a dull first half.

Accrington went close when an angled volley from Jamie Devitt beat goalkeeper Ryan Clarke, only for Oxford skipper Jake Wright to clear off the line, and the hosts were rueing that missed opportunity within two minutes as the visitors edged ahead.

A move down the left flank appeared to have come to nothing when James Constable's attempt to feed the ball into the area was cut out by Charlie Barnett. But Asa Hall raced onto the loose ball and slammed a low drive beyond Lee Nicholls from 12 yards.

Bobby Grant was denied an equaliser when his header was superbly saved by Clarke, while Padraig Amond wasted a great chance when Devitt played him through on goal by shooting high over the crossbar.

Oxford wrapped up the points in the 73rd minute when Constable's cross was headed home by Hall from eight yards.
