Whitaker makes Latics move

Oldham Athletic have signed Port Vale midfielder Danny Whitaker on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old was out of contract with Vale and rejected fresh terms to try his luck at Boundary Park.

Vale coach Mark Grew told The Sentinel: "It's very disappointing because Danny is such a good player.

"If we could have kept him I think he would have been exceptional in League Two, but his contract here was up and Danny had that choice to make.

"I think (manager) Lee Sinnott and the club have done everything they could do to keep him and offered him the best deal we could."

Whitaker had been with Vale for two seasons, having previously made his name with Macclesfield Town.
