Oldham Athletic defender Stefan Stam looks to have played his last game of 2006 after damaging ankle ligaments in Saturday's 2-1 victory against Cheltenham Town.
The 27-year-old Dutchman will undergo a scan on the problem but initial reports suggest he could be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
Stam fell awkwardly after winning a header and had to be substituted by Neal Trotman.
He has been a regular in the Latics' starting line-up this term after a series of injuries restricted him to only 13 first-team appearances last season.
A former PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar player, Stam moved to Boundary Park almost two years ago.
