Penney seeks midfield goals

Oldham Athletic manager Dave Penney is looking for his midfield men to recapture their goalscoring form of last season to fire them away from the League One drop zone.

The Latics are just one point outside the relegation places this term and they haven't been backed up by last season's free-scoring duo Chris Taylor and Danny Whitaker.

Taylor added 11 goals last term and Whitaker chipped in with eight, but this season has been a different story.

They have notched just three times between them and he has challenged them to get back in the goal charts in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the club's official website, Penney said: "It is important we can goals from all areas - set plays, wide areas - so we don't have to rely entirely on our centre forwards.

"Pawel Abbott and Jason Price have scored three of our last four goals and it is important everybody chips in as Joe Colbeck did at Swindon.

"Chris has had his injury problems this season, but hopefully he is over them and he can start scoring again."
