McDonald seals Latics exit

Oldham Athletic midfielder Gary McDonald has agreed a deal to join Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old former Kilmarnock midfielder was offered a new two-year contract by the Latics but has opted to return north of the border.

McDonald joined Oldham on a free transfer in summer 2006 and made 91 appearances for the League One club.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oldham and was made a good offer to stay," he told the Dons' official website.

"However, the lure of returning to the SPL with such a great club as Aberdeen was a major factor in my decision and I can't wait for the new season to get underway."
