    Latics target Hughes stay

    24 Jan 2009 - 12:57:01

Oldham Athletic are hoping to keep striker Lee Hughes despite efforts from Doncaster Rovers to take the striker to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Hughes is nearing the end of his contract at Oldham and has a £400,000 release clause, but manager John Sheridan is adamant that he will be staying at Boundary Park.

In an interview with The Sun, Sheridan said: "While I'm manager Lee will be staying here.

"He's going to be part and parcel of what we're trying to do. It's as simple as that."

Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has already admitted his interest in the former West Brom frontman, who has spent time in prison for causing death by dangerous driving.

He told Doncaster's official club website: "We haven't made a bid, we've just been enquiring.

"We've chatted to the player's agent regarding personal terms, as there is no point in agreeing a fee if you can't afford personal terms."
