    Latics ponder Hughes bow

    30 Aug 2007 - 10:11:01

Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan is considering handing Lee Hughes his debut in Saturday's trip to Hartlepool following an injury to Deane Smalley.

Hughes joined the Latics earlier in the week following his release from prison after serving three years for causing death by dangerous driving.

The former Coventry City and West Brom striker wasn't expected to play for a few weeks, but after Smalley damaged knee ligaments during Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat at Burnley, Sheridan is considering naming Hughes in his squad.

"Deane's taken a knock to the medial ligaments in his knee," Sheridan told the club's official website.

"That's another injury though and we've got a few now - Deane will be four to six weeks if the injury is what we suspect.

"Lee will train towards the end of the week.

"He's available for Saturday, but whether he will play I do not know.

"I know he is really up for a game but I don't know what level he's at."
