Latics offer Hughes new deal

Oldham Athletic have offered striker Lee Hughes a new two-year contract in an effort to keep him at Boundary Park.

The 32-year-old forward has a £400,000 buy-out clause in his current contract and has been linked with a move to a Championship club in January.

Hughes has scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for the Latics this season.

"We're hopeful he'll sign it but we're almost in the hands of Lee and his agent," said managing director Simon Corney.

"It's fair to say it's the best offer that we've made to any player in the time I've been at the club."

Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Mark Crossley will be out of action until March after discovering his needs surgery on a back injury.
