Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan has snapped up the former Chesterfield defender Reuben Hazell on an initial month's contract. The 28-year-old was a free agent after being released by the Spireites at the end of last season. Hazell began his career as a trainee at Aston Villa, but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League side before joining Tranmere Rovers eight years ago. He made 51 appearances for Rovers before being snapped up by Torquay United in February 2002 and then Chesterfield two years ago.
