Latics finally land Stephens

Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of Bury's teenage midfielder Dale Stephens on a two-year contract.

The 19-year-old rejected a new Shakers deal after breaking into the League Two side's first team last term and attracting the interest of several other clubs.

The two teams have been unable to agree a compensation package, so the transfer fee will be decided by tribunal.

Latics chief executive, Alan Hardy, said last month: "Dale's a signing for the future.

"He's still a young lad and has only a few first-team games under his belt, so it's likely that he'll not figure in the starting line-up at the beginning of the season."

Stephens has played 12 times for Bury, having gained further experience from loan spells with Droylsden and Hyde United.
