Latics aim to keep pair

Oldham Athletic chairman Simon Blitz insists manager John Sheridan has his full backing and remains hopeful that some of the club's key players will remain at Boundary Park.

The Latics lost out to Blackpool in the semi-finals of the play-offs and face another season in League One.

But Blitz insists there is no reason to make wholesale changes and hopes top scorer Chris Porter and midfielder playmaker Richie Wellens will sign new contracts.

"We're trying to keep everyone we believe is right for this club - that includes Richie and Chris - but whether they stay or not isn't always in your hands," he told the club's official website.

"Obviously we'd like to keep both Richie and Chris, and with Sean (Gregan) at the back there's a foundation there and we've got everything we need to build around them.

"We'll be backing John (Sheridan) 100 per cent. We've already eyed some targets, and will start making some phone calls over the next few days and weeks with a view to getting some new faces in for the new season."
