Johnson relishes foray into management
New Oldham manager Lee Johnson is relishing the challenge of keeping the club in npower League One.
Johnson, at the age of 31, is the youngest manager in the Football League. The post may be his first foray into management, after a successful playing career at Yeovil, Bristol City and Kilmarnock but Johnson is “looking forward” to it.
The former midfielder is following in his footsteps of his father Gary Johnson, now current Yeovil boss. Lee Johnson told Sky Sports: “I do feel like I’m ready. I’m ecstatic to be here and really looking forward to it.” “I’ve been given an awful amount of encouragement from the board and that gives me strength.” “I am proud that I am part of such a great club,” Johnson added.
Johnson continued to acknowledge that his father’s career in management will benefit his venture into it. He said that his father’s experience has been “invaluable” in his own development.
Oldham, who are in the bottom three at the moment, face Hartlepool on Tuesday in a massive six-pointer. If Johnson wins his first game as manager, Oldham may climb out of the relegation zone, at the expense of fellow strugglers Scunthorpe.
