Hughes faces race against time

Oldham Athletic striker Lee Hughes could miss the opening game of the season against Millwall due to a toe injury.

The 32-year-old former West Bromwich Albion hot-shot fractured his little toe in a collision with Sean Gregan last month.

Hughes endured an injury-ravaged 2007-08 campaign, starting only 18 games for the Latics after picking up a groin injury which eventually required surgery.

If he fails to recover in time, John Sheridan could turn to Craig Davies, Chris O'Grady, Deane Smalley or Lewis Alessandra to start in attack against the Lions.
