Oldham Athletic midfielder Neil Kilkenny has made a quicker than anticipated recovery from a thigh injury and could be ready for a first-team return before the end of the month.
The 21-year-old, who is on loan at Boundary Park from Birmingham City, sustained the injury at the end of August and was initially anticipated to be out of action for two months.
However, he has already begun light training and could feature in the League One clash with Crewe Alexandra on 29 September.
Kilkenny had said when he sustained the injury: "I've been told I'll be out for eight weeks, but hopefully I can get back before then.
"Obviously I don't want to rush back and then have to pull out again injured, so we'll see how it goes.
"I've had it for a while and it came back in the first five minutes of the Bristol Rovers game, but I carried on.
"I couldn't run at all and was dragging my leg behind me."
