While the 26-year-old did not suffer a broken leg during the home defeat to Southampton on Saturday, he may have ligament damage. Worthington made 237 appearances for Huddersfield before joining the Latics in the summer. The Yorkshire club visit Boundary Park on November 1 and he faces a race against time to be fit. "Jon has some spare bone in the region near to where the injury occurred, which is most likely to have been caused by the ligament pulling away from the fibula under extreme stress," Oldham physio Marc Czuczman told the Huddersfield Examiner. "The only thing we can ask Jon to do is rest, keep the leg elevated and hope for the best. Once the swelling, which is very large right now, has subsided, we can get some more in-depth scans done and Jon will see a specialist on Friday for that."
