Korey Smith has put himself into contention to be Athletic’s captain for the up-coming season. Smith is 22 and took the armband against Curzon Ashton even though there were more experienced players on the field.Latics' boss Lee Johnson has said he hasn’t made a decision yet about the captaincy but admitted, “Korey is certainly up there in the running. He is someone who has won this division, he is a good talker and someone the lads and the fans respect. I respect him. He is one of four or five who are options for captain.”
