Smalley ruled out of Boro clash
The 20-year-old forward sustained the problem in the goalless stalemate with Bury 10 days ago and has been unable to train since.
He missed Saturday's game with Sunderland and has been undergoing intensive treatment with a view to being fit for the Latics' final warm-up game with Blackpool on Saturday.
