Penney rubbishes Taylor rumours

The fans' favourite has been long-linked with a move across the Pennines to the West Yorkshire giants, but Penney insists there have been no enquiries for the 22-year-old. The Oldham-born playmaker is currently working his way back to full fitness after injury and the ex-Darlington boss is eager to have him available sooner rather than later. Penney has been without a number of key players this season and believes once the likes of Taylor along with Dean Smalley, Rob Purdie and Joe Jacobsen return his team will be much stronger. "It will probably be his agent chucking his name about and it has been going on for the last 18 months about Chris going here, there and everywhere," he told skysports.com. "It has certainly been happening every other week since I've been at the football club, but still no one has enquired about Chrissy Taylor and he has been injured for the majority of this season anyway. "We are hoping to get him back fit in the next couple of weeks, but no one has either asked me about Chris or put money on the table for him. He needs to get himself fit, and I mean physically fit health-wise, before he starts playing for us, so never mind stories about him moving to another club. "He is a terrific player and the absence of both him and Dean Smalley have been huge losses for us this season. Dean hasn't kicked a ball for us yet this season and Chris has been out of the side with injuries. "Add to that the likes of Rob Purdie and Joe Jacobsen, who also haven't kicked a ball for us this season and you've got four big misses to this football club. "Dean and Chris give us the natural width that we like to play with and were both big players for us last season, so the quicker we can get them back, the stronger we will be."
