Penney eyes defensive improvement
Latics shipped eight goals during a pre-season campaign that was rounded off by Sunday's 4-2 defeat by Blackpool.
Penney told the Oldham Advertiser: "We've proved we can score goals but we've let some poor goals in during pre-season through individual errors or set pieces.
"We're looking a threat going forward but we have to make sure we lock the back door when we do go forward.
"No matter what level you play at, if you don't keep cleansheets, you won't have a chance of winning football matches."
