Elokobi in line for Latics start

Oldham are likely to involve new signing George Elokobi from the start in their Capital One Cup clash with Middlesbrough.

The former Wolves defender joined the club on Friday and made a late substitute appearance during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Colchester.

Another summer arrival, Jonathan Forte, will be hoping to retain his place after grabbing a brace in Essex.

Strikers Willie Gros and Amari Morgan-Smith may have to wait longer for their Oldham bows with manager Lee Johnson not expected to make wholesale changes.

Middlesbrough will be without Ben Gibson after he was forced out of their opening-day win against Birmingham.

The defender went down clutching his hamstring in the first minute and is expected to be sidelined for a month, meaning he could miss up to five matches.

Kenneth Omeruo replaced Gibson alongside Daniel Ayala in central defence, while club captain Jonathan Woodgate will come into contention after missing out through injury at the weekend.

Emilio Nsue is pushing for his first start for the club after stepping off the bench on Saturday and another summer signing, defender James Husband, is in contention to make his competitive debut. Boro are hoping to tie up a deal for Damia Abella.
