Simpson boost for Oldham

Robbie Simpson is set to hand a boost to boss Paul Dickov when Oldham host Doncaster in the second round of the FA Cup.

Simpson, who has been deployed in attack and midfield by Dickov this season, has missed the last three games through a groin injury but was due back in training on Friday.

Defender James Tarkowski could also make a welcome return from a foot injury, but Cliff Byrne's suspension for collecting five yellow cards is likely to result in on-loan Manchester City right-back Reece Wabara reverting to centre-half.

Goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is also suspended having received a straight red card during Latics' 1-0 npower League One defeat to Rovers on Tuesday night - a clash that also saw opposition forward Iain Hume dismissed courtesy of a second yellow.

Latics have invoked Alex Cisak's 24-hour return clause in his loan deal with Portsmouth. The 23-year-old keeper trained with Oldham on Thursday and the Football League granted clearance for him to play in Bouzanis' absence on Friday morning.

Doncaster boss Dean Saunders will be forced into changes for the second meeting with Oldham this week.

Winger David Cotterill and on-loan striker Iain Hume both received their fifth yellow cards of the season during Rovers' 1-0 league win over the Latics on Tuesday night and are suspended for the FA Cup second-round tie at Boundary Park.

Martin Woods was forced off with a thigh injury just after the half-hour mark in midweek and the midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Striker Billy Paynter missed the game at the Keepmoat Stadium due to a hamstring problem and he remains a doubt.

Defender Andy Griffin (hamstring) and winger Kyle Bennett (knee) are still not ready to return to the first-team squad.
