Triple doubt for Latics

Oldham are counting the cost of their thrilling victory on Saturday with three players now doubtful for their Capital One Cup clash with Derby.

Last season's top scorer Jose Baxter, who netted twice in the 4-3 away win over Stevenage, Cristian Montano and James Dayton are all carrying minor injuries.

Baxter gave Latics all three points with an 87th-minute penalty, showing his nerve after earlier missing from the spot, but is troubled by a dead leg.

Forward Montano, who also scored - his a brilliant solo effort - is carrying a knock as is Dayton, who was originally a doubt for Saturday but started and played 75 minutes.

Derby manager Nigel Clough has hinted at changes to his side for the tie.

Paul Coutts missed the Rams' final two pre-season friendly matches with a groin problem but the midfielder was fit enough for a place on the bench as Clough's men got their Championship campaign up and running with a 1-1 home draw against Blackburn. Coutts appeared as a second-half substitute on Sunday, replacing goalscorer Johnny Russell.

He could start the first round tie at Boundary Park while striker Conor Sammon and defender Adam Smith, signed last week from Tottenham on a season-long loan deal, will also be in contention to feature from the off.

Elsewhere, defenders Mark O'Brien and Shaun Barker remain unavailable as they continue their long-term rehabilitation from knee injuries.
