Latics sink sorry Wycombe

Wycombe remain in trouble after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Oldham.

Midfield pair James Wesolowski and Dean Furman scored their first goals of the season for an Oldham side who rarely came under threat.

Furman drilled inches wide before the Latics were denied what seemed a clear penalty for Grant Basey's challenge on Shefki Kuqi.

Wycombe keeper Nikki Bull made a fine save from Kuqi before also thwarting Jean Yves Nboto with a tip over the bar from the defender's header.

Oldham's pressure was rewarded after 59 minutes when Wesolowski arrived at the near post to net a six-yard volley from Chris Taylor's left-wing cross.

Kuqi wasted a clear chance to make it 2-0 before Wycombe created their only real opening when Joel Grant fired over.

Oldham sealed the points 10 minutes from time when Robbie Simpson cut back a left-wing corner to Furman, who hit a sweet first-time shot inside the post from 16 yards.
