Dominic Poleon earns Oldham a point against 10-man Wigan

Dominic Poleon earned Oldham a point as they hit back to claim a 1-1 draw against 10-man Wigan.

The home side, under interim manager David Dunn, went close to an early goal when a header from debutant Michael Higdon crashed back off a post.

But Wigan made the breakthrough in brilliant style after 34 minutes as Reece James passed to midfielder Max Power and his first-time shot flew inside the post from 30 yards.

Wigan almost doubled their lead before half-time but Oldham goalkeeper David Cornell denied Michael Jacobs and made a stunning reflex save from Jordy Hiwula.

The visitors went down to 10 men in the 70th minute as Jordan Flores reacted angrily to Jay Fulton's challenge and was shown a straight red card for kicking his opponent.

Oldham levelled four minutes later as Higdon brought down a Mark Yeates cross and the loose ball was drilled home from six yards by substitute Poleon.

Dunn's side pressed for a winner but Poleon was off target with their only real chance.
