Collins earns draw for Shrews

James Collins scored the equaliser as Shrewsbury earned a deserved 1-1 draw at Oldham.

Liam Kelly despatched a 52nd-minute penalty to open the scoring after David Dunn was tripped in the box by Shrewsbury full-back Matt Tootle.

But Collins levelled in the 70th minute, latching on to a goal kick from Jayson Leutwiler and skipping round goalkeeper Joel Coleman to roll home with his left foot.

Jermaine Grandison and Mark Ellis headed off target for the visitors from early corner kicks, but Oldham grew into the opening half and almost netted through a spectacular Jonathan Forte effort.

Liam Kelly lofted a pass over his shoulder and the striker spun and struck a left-foot volley against the crossbar.

Oldham started the second half apace and Mike Jones saw his shot turned over by Leutwiler before the penalty which Kelly rolled home with authority.

Shrewsbury, who ended the game the stronger side, replied through Collins and almost went in front through substitute Shaun Whalley, whose shot was well saved by Coleman.
