Adam Armstrong puts seal on Coventry's victory at Oldham

Adam Armstrong scored his 20th goal of the season as Coventry ended their Sky Bet League One campaign with a 2-0 win at Oldham.

A game with no real significance for either side burst into life in the closing stages as Romain Vincelot made the breakthrough and Armstrong, on loan from Newcastle, sealed the Sky Blues' victory.

Coventry could have grabbed an early lead, but Jack Stephens sliced off target despite being unmarked six yards out.

Oldham went close midway through the first half when Curtis Main's header forced a brilliant one-handed save from visiting goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook.

Coventry wasted a good chance before the break, with George Thomas firing over from close range after Armstrong's pass.

Oldham goalkeeper Joel Coleman made a fine save from Stephens after 73 minutes, but Coventry scored from the resulting corner as Jacob Murphy's cross was headed into the top corner from eight yards by captain Vincelot.

Murphy also made Coventry's second goal in the 81st minute as he set up Armstrong for a neat finish from 10 yards.
