.... and could be bigger than originally planned

Chairman Simon Corney has told the Manchester Evening News that Athletic's new stand is on track to be built in time for the start of the new season. He also revealed that amendments are being made to the planning application and that the capacity of the stand could be larger than was originally planned. The stand would cost in the region of £5.5m and could be built in France to be transported across the Channel.

Corney said, "I'd like to think that we are going to be on site at the start of the new year. The planning application has gone in but we are making a few amendments to make it slightly bigger. We're talking to a French company who say that if we work with them they can get it ready in time for the new season. A lot of it would be built off site and transported here. My aim hasn't changed and it should still be on time."Corney also confessed that he has still not found any investors to take over the businessside of the 3,000 capacity stand which could include a gym, a conference and banqueting suite and a mini-supermarket. He went on, "It's the world we live in. Once it is built I will go in full pelt. It will cost between £4m and £5.5m. The good news (jokingly) is that we have about £38 towards it already."
