New manager unveiled

"Oldham is a proper football club" The Latics have finally unveiled Paul Dickov as the man to replace Dave Penney as the new team player/manager. Dickov is 37 years old and has a wealth of experience and if his playing style can be replicated in his own players, the Oldham Athletic fans will have one heck of a season to look forward to. His press conference was impressive and just maybe, this could be the turning point for Athletic who have been in free-fall since their relegation from the Premier League back in 1994. Dickov said, "Oldham is a proper football club. I was given other options to keep playing both at home and from the MLS. I couldn't turn it down when the offer came. Money has never been the motivator for me. I love playing football. I love training. The opportunity came and it just felt right. My assistant manager has got to be somebody that I trust 100%, especially if I continue to play. They need to have the same morals as me and the same work ethic." All fans have expectations and Oldham fans have been notorious in displaying their displeasure when things haven't gone right in the past. They have harassed both players and managers and many are still living on the effects of the 'glory years' and expect that it is their right to be back up there. Football has changed and there is no divine right for any team to expect success from their previous successes. Ask any Leeds United, Norwich City or Millwall fan! Latics fans need to get behind the new manager and support him and his team even if it doesn't go right straight away. Look how long it took for Joe Royle to be successful. Many were shouting for him out when he first set foot at Boundary Park and look where he took the team. Patience is a virtue and Latics fans need to be patient. Good luck to Paul Dickov and let's support him until the team return to the Championship - and then some more!
